WCW Underground 2.16

- Previously on Underground: Davey Richards battled Drew Gallows, but Drew Gallows came out on top thanks to interference from CM Punk. The straight-edge duo continued their assault afterward until Eddie Edwards made the timely save.

- Opening video package.

- Lenny Leonard and JML are at ringside. Lenny talks about Superbrawl being only days away, but he barely gets anything out before being interrupted by Brent Albright. Albright is all smiles, so Lenny asks him what's up. Albright says in two days he's going to beat that little runt Eddie Edwards within an inch of his life and take what's rightfully his. He says he's got a gameplan that guarantees victory and there's nothing anyone can do about it. Brent leaves while cackling. Never thought I'd type that word here.

Match #1: Chip Day vs. CM Punk
Standard squash. Lenny and JML spend more time putting over the Punk/Richards-match here than anything else. Punk uses all of his good stuff, but then finishes Day off with the DR Driver. MIND GAMES~! or something.

Result: CM Punk wins via pin w/ The DR Driver
Time: 4:31

- And, of course, Punk gets an interview. Lenny asks him for his thoughts on his match with Davey Richards at Superbrawl. Punk says he's never been more ready to slap around a midget than he is now. He asks Lenny if there's a law against midget tossing in Georgia, but then laughs and says of course not - that's how these hicks have fun. So Punk has resorted to the cheapest imaginable heat to try and drown out the cheers he gets every week and it still doesn't work. Punk then says the real question he wants answered is whether not it'll be a Top Contender match. Punk says he's going to make Davey go to sleep and then he'll set his eyes on whoever wins between Chris Jericho and Chris Hero. He says whoever wins that one, loses.

- A video package plays that covers the Midnight Guns injuring Jay Briscoe two weeks ago.

Match #2: Drew Adler/Ace Rockwell vs. The Midnight Guns
Tag-squash. Lenny gets a little overzealous in explaining the absolutely horrible actions (his words) of the Midnight Guns. The Guns work in some of their state-of-the-art offense. Really, they're probably the most creative team in wrestling with their moves. For example, the pendulum swing (by Moxley)/soccer kick (by Black) is so simple and yet looks so vicious. They finish off the jobbers with Cyanide & Happiness.

Result: The Midnight Guns win via pin w/ Cyanide & Happiness
Time: 4:11

- The Guns approach the commentary table for an interview. Lenny asks if they feel any remorse for what they did to Jay Briscoe. Moxley responds, "Why should we?" He says that those rough-and-tough Briscoes knew what they were getting themselves into when they woke up and decided they wanted to be pro wrestlers. Moxley says that no one cries for disenfranchised youth of America who continue to have their ideals ripped asunder by those in power, the greedy and the wealthy and the ignore masses present that support them - but they'll cry for a dumb redneck who bit off more than he can chew. Moxley finishes, "Ain't that America?" JML's facial expressions are genuinely amazing. Good stuff from Moxley.

- Chris Hero comes out to provide guest commentary.

Match #3: Shane Curtis vs. Chris Jericho [c] - Non-title Match
Jericho politely squashes Curtis. During the match he uses a few elbow strikes to mock Hero, interestingly. Jericho finishes Curtis off with a Codebreaker and the Lionsault is short fashion.

Result: Chris Jerichos win via pin w/ The Lionsault
Time: 2:54

- Jericho goes to the commentary table for an interview. Lenny says that we have a combustible element here. Lenny asks Jericho if he's ready for Chris Hero on Saturday. Jericho says he couldn't be more ready and that he's looking forward to slapping Hero in his place. He says Hero's a good wrestler and maybe one day he'll be great, but today he's not anywhere near the level he needs to be to compete with Chris Jericho. Hero then slaps Jericho! Jericho smiles and says, "That's good. Bring that fire with you on Saturday. On Saturday - you're not fighting Shane Curtis or Chip Day or Anthony Andrews. You're fighting the WCW Champion. And you'll need all the fire you can muster if you hope to have a chance in hell of taking this gold from me." They stare each other down into the commercial break.

The Event Center
Like the Event Center from a few weeks ago, this is just a hype-job for the iPPV on Saturday. Each match gets a run-down, but the big news is the addition of another match: The Cross vs. Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. The biggest hype goes to DOOMSDAY vs. Bad Intentions. There's been a lot of controversy of late about that match being in the main event, with the biggest issue being that out of five iPPVs only two have had main events for the WCW Championship. But then you have to go with the fact that DOOMSDAY gets one of the hottest reactions from the audience, so what do you do? iPPV should be good, regardless.

- Davey Richards is at the commentary table. Lenny asks him if he's prepared for CM Punk. Davey says he's not here to talk about if he's prepared or if Punk's prepared or if the sky is blue or red. He says he wants the WCW Executive Director out here with an answer to the petition. The assistant comes out and says that the Executive Director has read both petitions carefully and has come to a decision: the winner of Davey Richards vs. CM Punk will face the winner of Chris Hero vs. Chris Jericho for the WCW Championship at the next iPPV on June 30 - The Great American Bash. Davey says that's all he wanted to hear and walks off.

Match #4: Ric King/Kid Mafia vs. DOOMSDAY w/ Jimmy Jacobs [c] - Non-title Match
Quick squash, as both King and Mafia are recipients of the Omega Driver.

Result: DOOMSDAY win via pin w/ The Omega Driver
Time: 1:09

- Interview-time for DOOMSDAY. They are truly the most over act within the confines of Center Stage, moreso than Jericho I'd say. Lenny asks if they have any final thoughts before Saturday. Jacobs says they've ruminated and pondered and questioned everything there is to question. He says they've gone over battle plans and regiments and strategies enough to last them until the end of days. Jacobs says, "How fitting, then, is it that Bad Intentions will come face-to-face with exactly that." He says on Saturday the sky will turn a dark red and bones will litter the streets as an epic battle will tear the world apart. Jacobs finishes with, "On Saturday, Bad Intentions will meet that which has always been coming: DOOMSDAY." Good stuff.

Main Event: Brent Albright/Alberto Dos Caras/Chris Masterson vs. Eddie Edwards/The Patriot/Windham Rotunda
It starts off as one big brawl. Everyone pairs off with their iPPV opponent and brawls around ringside. Windham and Masterson brawl up onto the stage in front of the commentary table. Albright and Eddie brawl up into the crowd. The Patriot and Dos Caras around the ring. There's tons of "hardcore"-spots, for lack of a better term, such as the Patriot slamming Alberto on the concrete or Masterson suplexing Windham on the stage. This goes on for a good bit of time too, since the bell never rings. A huge spot happens with all three of the heels in the ringside area and Windham flying off the stage onto them with a somersault diva! In any event after some more brawling the ref gets everyone into the ring and the official match starts. Eddie is the face-in-peril since he plays that role exceptionally well. The heels take turns beating him up. Eddie finally catches Albright with a flying knee strike to set up the hot tag to the Patriot who gets a pretty good reaction. The Patriot cleans house and breaks down again with everyone brawling. It's a bit hard to call, honestly. Masterson nails the Patriot with what I believe are brass knux, setting up the Dos Caras-pin for the heel-win.

Result: Brent Albright/Alberto Dos Caras/Chris Masterson win via pin w/ a brass-knux punch
Time: 13:32 (28:12 including pre-match brawl)

- They continue brawling as Lenny and JML flee for safety. A video package plays hyping the iPPV to end the show. Short episode this week, being roughly 40 or so minutes.
