WCW Underground 1.01
- Video opening gets the show off. Pretty well put together stuff, highlighting all of the main stars.
- Lenny Leonard and JBL are the commentary team. Leonard introduces him as JML. Not a lot of time for talk as we have a match right away.
Match 1: The Briscoes vs. Caleb Konley/Sal Rinauro
Konley and Rinauro get "already in the ring" jobber entrances. Briscoes explode out to "Gimme Back My Bullets." JML says he loves these guys. Glorified squash here, as the Briscoes debut their smash-mouth style. JML calls them a Terry Funk & Cactus Jack meets the Steiners hybrid team. They use all of their regular double teams and the big hip-toss in particular gets a good pop. They finish off Konley with the springboard Doomsday Device.
Result: The Briscoes win via pin w/ The Springboard Doomsday Device
Time: 2:45
- Post-match the Briscoes go over to the commentary table. They ramble incoherently and JML hilariously goes into it with them. Lenny Leonard's facial expressions are hilarious. If you remember Boomhower from King of the Hill, that's what they all sound like. They all end up yelling "MAN UP!" and the Briscoes leave. JML isn't really playing the heel-role that Aries did.
- Video package plays that recaps the LTM Tournament.
- Alberto Dos Caras comes out and cuts a promo. Says that he's keeping with tradition, only instead of coming to America and taking all the jobs, he's coming and taking all the belts. Dos Caras brags about beating Angle and decides to go in for commentary on the next match.
Match 2: Eddie Edwards w/ Davey Richards vs. Adam Pearce
Lenny puts over the Edwards/Richards connection, calling them former tag partners that are training together for singles action. Dos Caras calls them "Blancos." JML thinks that's hilarious, so I guess he's a heel now. Edwards controls to start, but unsurprisingly Pearce uses some heel shenanigans to take control. Rather surprisingly, Edwards battles back almost immediately and dominates the leg. Eddie uses some Bret Hart-inspired offense to work the leg. Lenny mentions there's a 10-minute time-limit for all regular matches and a 15-minute time limit for all main events and title matches. Pearce tries some heel-stuff again, but Edwards rolls him into single-leg crap ("Achilles Lock!" - Lenny Leonard) to get the submission victory.
Result: Eddie Edwards via submission w/ The Achilles Lock (single-leg crab)
Time: 7:12
- Dos Caras continues to bad mouth Edwards and Richards, long enough for the duo to catch on. They confront Dos Caras and hostile words are had leading up to Davey slapping the piss out of Dos Caras. Long story short, the main event becomes Alberto Dos Caras vs. Davey Richards in a non-title match.
- A video plays that hypes up DOOMSDAY.
- Lenny and JML discuss the match that didn't happen on iPPV, mainly the debut of Fastball Special. Fastball Special will be coming to Internet soon, they promise.
Match #3: Drew Adler vs. Ace Rockwell
Lenny calls these two rising stars on the local scene. JML is curious as to whether not the two of them together weigh as much as he does. The action doesn't get far before CHIKARA mainstays Claudio Castagnoli and Ares (of the BDK) invade the ring and murderize the two jobbers. Claudio nails both men with the UFO. They then hit a tag team manuever on Rockwell where Claudio holds Rockwell in the sidewalk slam position and Ares jumps off the turnbuckle with a body-splash. Similar to the Sidewinder the Smoking Gunns used to do, but with a body-splash as opposed to a leg-drop. Claudio has red trunks with a white cross on the front, while Ares has white short-tights with a white cross on the front.
Result: No contest via outside interference by Claudio Castagnoli & Ares.
Time: 2:22
- Leonard asks for Claudio and Ares to come talk to them. Ares goes into a huge rant, but it's all in German. That's two promos on one show, by the way, where the idea is that the person speaking cannot be understood. Claudio translates for him in English. They promise to destroy any and all who get in their way. They made a statement last Saturday by taking out the little Mexican and that statement is: The Cross does not yield for anyone.
- A video package plays that hypes up Brent Albright, calling him "The Shooter."
- JML tells Lenny he likes how The Cross took care of business, but he didn't care for being spoken to in German. They hype next week's show with the promised main event of Brent Albright vs. Chris Hero in a rematch from their clash at The Lou Thesz Memorial Tournament iPPV.
Main Event: Alberto Dos Caras vs. Davey Richards w/ Eddie Edwards
Lenny calls Davey Richards the modern-day pro wrestler who fights with a hybrid-style of wrestling, mixing traditional, Japanese, Lucha, and MMA-elements. JML says he really likes Davey Richards fire and spirit. Davey holds Alberto off with some kicks at first. They chain-wrestle with Davey continuously getting the upper-hand. Alberto tries some dastardly tactics but Davey fights them off. Davey dominates after Alberto miscalculates with a back body-drop. Davey utilizes a lot of stiff shots and works the arm. Alberto ends up outside and manages to toss Davey into a guardrail. That allows Alberto take over and he immediately begins channeling Ric Flair, but with an arm instead of a leg. Alberto uses a lot of his standard offense to work the arm over and JML really puts over just how painful the cross arm-breaker can be. Davey fights back out though and hits the Alarm Clock out of nowhere for two. Alberto rolls out for safety and Davey dives out after him, ending up in the front row per his usual results. Back in and Davey really starts lighting into Alberto with the kicks. They trade falls but then Davey pretty much kicks Alberto's head off. It's all Davey from there. Davey gets several near-falls. Davey tries several times for the D-R Driver (butterfly Brainbuster), but Alberto fights it off. Superplex by Davey gets two and the crowd is starting to go nuts. One minute left in the match and FINALLY hits the D-R Driver, but Alberto gets a boot on the ropes. Davey tries for another, but Alberto counters with the Destiny Lock (cross arm-breaker), but Davey STOMPS Alberto in the FACE and then counters with a Destiny Lock of his own! Alas, time expires before Dos Caras submits. The crowd is going apeshit by this point and begging for more time. Dos Caras has none of it though and escapes.
Result: Time-limit draw
Time: 15:00
- Lenny and JML thank the fans and Davey comes over to give his two cents. He says he's proven here that he can beat Dos Caras and he wants a rematch with no time-limits next time. Lenny thanks the fans again to end the show.
