WCW Underground 2.07

- Previously on WCW Underground: Three Kings beat the team of Brodie Lee and the Necro Butcher when Brodie Lee turned on Necro. JML tried to save Necro from a beat down, but was the recipient of a beat down of his own ultimately.

- Standard opening video package.

- Lenny Leonard is by himself at ring-side. He says last week's ending has put JML on the shelf for this week. He says he's going to push forward as best he can because we're only two days away from the Bunkhouse Stampede where history will be made and the tone for 2012 in WCW will be set. He starts to run down the card when he's interrupted by Austin Aries. Aries says he's kind of surprised that JML would call in sick and then says he'll call the show with Leonard for old time's sake.

Match #1: Eddie Edwards [c] vs. Cru Jones - Non-title Match
Leonard calls this a warm-up for Edwards' title defense against Drew Gallows on Sunday. Aries wastes no time putting himself over at the expense of JML. Pretty good match, here, with Jones getting tons of offense in. Edwards hits the Olympic Slam in the end to score the pin-fall.

Result: Eddie Edwards wins via pin w/ The Olympic Slam
Time: 6:10

- Edwards approaches the commentary table for a promo. Leonard asks him how training with Kurt Angle has been going. Edwards says that when you look across the ring and you see seven feet of destruction waiting to tear your head off, training with an icon like Kurt Angle can only be a plus. He says being in the gym with a two-time Olympic gold medalist and former World champion is going to give him an edge on Saturday. Leonard asks him who he thinks will win the Bunkhouse Stampede match. Edwards says that only one man has the sheer guts to fight through 24 other men and win and that man is Davey Richards. The crowd responds favorably to that. Leonard asks him for any final words for Drew Gallows. Edwards says the bigger they are, the harder they fall and on Saturday on iPPV - Drew Gallows will fall hard. Pretty good stuff.

- Commercials.

- Jimmy Jacobs is at ring-side with the tag champs, DOOMSDAY. Jacobs says that the future is already etched in stone. He says on Saturday the final word will be written on Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. He calls WGTT the epitome of excellence and an exemplary tag team in their own right, but nothing can stop the ultimate conclusion. He says the world rotates and the sun burns, but DOOMSDAY comes to all.

Match #2: The Cross vs. Caleb Konley/Sal Rinauro
This is the first match with the Cross in quite some time. Leonard says that the Cross have been in a slump since Starrcade but intend to turn things around on Saturday. He puts Castagnoli over as one of the "pound-for-pound best in the world today." Interesting. The Cross use dastardly heel tactics, of course, much to the chagrin of the crowd. After toying with the jobbers for awhile, they nail the Blitzkreig (sidewalk slam by Claudio/flying bodysplash by Ares-combo - similar to the Smoking Gunns' Sidewinder).

Result: The Cross win via pin w/ Blitzkreig
Time: 5:10

- Ares cuts a vicious promo in German. Leonard asks Claudio to elaborate on what was said, but Claudio responds in German himself.

- Commercials.

- Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team are out for a rebuttal from earlier. Haas says that for ten years they've always been on the cusp of being true legends but there's always been one thing holding them back. He says whether it was piss-poor decision-making by splitting them up, a couple of coked-out brothers refusing to do what's right for business, or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time - they've never really been able to live up to the moniker they've set for themselves. He says that all changes on Saturday. He says on Saturday they're going to do the impossible and they're going to stop DOOMSDAY. He says when they do they won't just be WCW Tag Team champions, they will truly be wrestling's greatest tag team. Good, passionate stuff.

Match #3: Drew Adler vs. Drew Gallows
Oh dear. Big boot. Power bomb. Another power bomb. Victory.

Result: Drew Gallows wins via pin w/ a power bomb
Time: 0:15

- Gallows and Punk hit the commentary booth to have a little chit-chat. Punk starts off. He says the wrestling world waits on pins and needles for Punk to speak. He says the future hinges on his every move and that's why it's so utterly important that he win on Saturday. He says it doesn't matter if Davey wins, it doesn't matter if the homeless guy wins, it doesn't matter if Albert from Japan wins... He says none of them move the needle like he does. He says on Saturday the world will weep when he wins, then cheer in a realization that he was the only option anyway. Not even sure what the hell he was saying there, honestly. Gallows takes his turn. He says on Saturday he plans on to smear "that little pipsqueak Eddie Edwards" all over the ring. He says that he's going to take out two years of frustration being a dumb hick and then getting fired on Eddie. He says win or lose, Eddie dies. Good stuff but Gallows, but Punk was a little bit off.

- Commercials.

- A video recaps the storied Chris Jericho vs. Alberto Dos Caras-feud.

Match #4: Alberto Dos Caras vs. Lee Roy
A rare Dos Caras match! This match plays out much like the old Flair-matches from back in the day. Caras give a bit, but for the most part just dominates before locking in the Destiny Lock (cross arm-breaker).

Result: Alberto Dos Caras wins via submission w/ The Destiny Lock
Time: 4:10

- Alberto walks over to the commentary table as if to cut a promo, but then brushes them off and walks away.

- Commercials.

The Event Center
This week's Event Center is a little less notable than previous. It's mainly a sell-job for the iPPV on Saturday. Jim Ross gives an in-depth analysis on all three major matches, utilizing tons of clips from previous encounters. For added bonus, he predicts that WGTT won't be able to stop DOOMSDAY and that Eddie Edwards won't be able to overcome Drew Gallows. He also says that he sees Chris Hero walking away the winner of the Stampede-match. A little harder to recap than most weeks, but it's mostly just an elongated hype video for the iPPV.

Main Event: Mark Briscoe vs. Chris Jericho - WCW Championship Match
Both Briscoes were granted title-shots as a result of winning the six-man tag match at Starrcade. Jericho already defeated Jay Briscoe in his first title defense a few weeks back. Aries is in fine form here, bashing the hell out of Mark Briscoe. "I heard he lost his teeth while making out with his cousin. I can confirm that is 100% true having heard the story on MSNBC's lesbian chick's show." That'll land 'em in hot-water, but it's hi-larious! Jericho easily dominates Mark to start. Mark tries to mount some offense, but Jericho out-wrestles him on each occasion. They trade a few punches, with Jericho on the losing end before he realizes that it's happening that way and knees Mark in the stomach to slow his momentum. Jericho begins a vicious attack on the neck, using a variety of moves that target the area (neckbreakers, suplexes, etc.). Mark ends up outside and Jericho dives onto him. Jericho goes for a suplex on the outside, but Mark fights out of it and attacks him with the Redneck Kung Fu~! Jericho shoves Mark into the ring-post though. Back in and Jericho continues the assault on the neck. A superplex gets the damndest near-fall I've ever seen. Jericho goes for the Codebreaker but Mark counters with a jack-knife cradle for two. Mark hits a spinning heel kick for the long, drawn-out ten-count spot. Both are up by 8 and trade blows, with Mark mustering the lead. Mark pounds away at Jericho a la Steve Austin in the corner. Mark goes for a running dropkick but Jericho tears over him with a vicious lariat. More neck-work from Jericho. Lengthy heat-segment here, actually pretty boring. Mark rallies the crowd behind him something fierce and fights out and hits a vicious Saito-suplex. Another long, drawn-out ten spot happens with five minutes left. Jericho finally hits the Codebreaker, but Mark gets his foot on the ropes. Jericho goes for the Lionsault but Mark gets his knees up. Mark hits a ton of Exploders on Jericho for two. Mark goes for the Cutthroat Driver, but Jericho rolls him up for two. Jericho tries the Liontamer, but Mark rolls him up for two. They exchange some more near-falls. Three minutes left. Jericho leap-frogs a charge Mark who ends up shoulder-first in the ring-post, but it only nets Jericho a close two-count. Jericho tries for a top-rope rana but Mark power bombs him to the ring but it only gets two. One minute left. Jericho catches Mark out of nowhere with an enzuiguri and follows up with the Lionsault to finish Mark off with roughly 20 seconds left.

Result: Chris Jericho wins via pin w/ The Lionsault
Time: 29:38

- Jericho shakes Mark's hand to end the show as Leonard does one last hype-job for the iPPV.
