WCW Underground 2.11

- Previously on WCW Underground: Chris Hero scored a big victory over Windham Rotunda, continuing his road towards a WCW Championship match-claim. Chris Masterson locked Windham Rotunda in the Torture Lock, forcing Rotunda unconscious.

- Opening video.

- The show begins with Lenny Leonard, flying solo tonight, in the ring alongside DOOMSDAY, Jimmy Jacobs, and Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. Leonard says that a couple of weeks ago WGTT asked for another title match. Jacobs says that he doesn't think WGTT is deserving a title match, but it's widely irrelevant because DOOMSDAY will happily square off with them again. This brings out the weasely executive. The exec says that since DOOMSDAY doesn't mind granting the rematch and have are on schedule for a defense next week, the Executive Director has confirmed the rematch. He then says that WGTT this match is going to be called a "Do or Die Match," where if WGTT loses they will not be able to challenge for the WCW Tag Team championship again until 1/1/13. Haas and Benjamin play it off as a dire situation, as opposed to a typical heel feeling like he's being screwed. A good way to do it, IMO. The teams exit as Lenny remains in the ring. He says that tonight they have five matches signed, including Chris Jericho wrestling in the main event - plus, a special interview with the #1 contender to the WCW Championship, Alberto Dos Caras, in the Event Center.

Match #1: Michael Cannon vs. CM Punk
Not surprisingly, this is a squash. Punk toys with the local guy, Drew Gallows does some interference, and Punk ultimately nails the G2S for the win.

Result: CM Punk wins via pin w/ The Go 2 Sleep
Time: 5:03

- Punk decides to cut his promo in the ring this week, sitting on the turnbuckle. He says right now there's this big race going on for who's going to challenge for the WCW Championship at Superbrawl on iPPV in April. He says right now, he and Chris Hero are neck-and-neck while Davey Richards is eating their dust. He says that Hero made a bit of headway last week but what Hero did barely compares to the hard-fought victory Punk just earned. He says that as we move forward there's really only one option to challenge for the Championship and that's him - the Straight-Edge Savior, the Second City Saint, and the true-to-life Best in the World. He says if anyone doubts that, then they're an idiot.

- Out comes the United States Champion, Eddie Edwards. Lenny asks him his thoughts on the match with Albright from two weeks ago. Eddie says that he knows there's a great deal of controversy in the finish but at the end of the day being champion comes with champion's edge: you retain the belt on DQ, disqualification, or time-limit draw. He says with that said, he didn't like the finish one damn bit and he's more than willing to look across the ring at Brent Albright one more time. He says that he doesn't back down from any challenge, any fight, and if Albright wants to try it one more time then by all means. He says the only problem he has is that when, not if, when he beats Albright again - who's Albright going to bully and beat up this time?

Match #2: Patrick Bentley vs. Eddie Edwards
Bentley gets a super-jobberiffic entrance, already being in the ring. Another squash of course. Eddie picks the leg a part rather quickly before locking in the Achilles Lock for the submission.

Result: Eddie Edwards wins via submission w/ The Achilles Lock
Time: 3:42

-BRISCOES~! Incoherent rambling and tons of "MAN UP!" Love it.

- JML comes out. He says tonight he's not here for commentary, he's just here to make sure everyone knows that in two weeks on FOX he's going to beat the hell out of Austin Aries.

Match #3: Davey Richards vs. Richie Steamboat
Oh wow, this should be interesting. Lots of testing each other out at first with counter-holds and the such. Back-and-forth stuff with neither man getting the upper-hand until a well placed solebutt kick by Davey Richards turns the tide in his favor. Davey dominates for a bit, but Richie hits a vicious DDT in the style of the Rock. That allows him to dominate for a bit. A pretty impressive bit sees Richie hit the twisting sunset flip out of the corner that Christian does frequently, but it only gets a near-fall. More back and forth stuff, but nothing amazing. It's almost like they're holding back from a full match, really. Richie goes for the Dragon Suplex, but Davey counters with a swank roll-up out of nowhere for three. Bit of an anticlimactic finish, but the match was still solid and lengthy.

Result: Davey Richards wins via pin w/ a cradle
Time: 12:08

- Davey and Richie shake hands and then Davey heads over to the commentary table for a promo. Davey questions the logic that Punk used earlier. He says that Punk's competition pales in comparison to his or Hero's. He says there's definitely a race going on, but right now it's between him and Hero. He says that he and Hero have unfinished business from Starrcade and that they should settle it soon.

The Event Center
This week Jim Ross conducts a sit-down interview with Dos Caras. This video details more stuff related to his history with Mexico than his wrestling career. Some really hilarious stuff here as he buys something from a taco stand and then demands a refund because it's disgusting. He tells a couple of kids that America is the greatest country in the world and if they were smart, they would hide themselves in a van and hitch a ride over the border. They run off and he says they're good kids and maybe one day they can mow his lawn. He walks into a church and says that he prays every Sunday to be champion again and he knows that his prays will come true because it is his destiny. Fantastic video. Next week: more on the Bad Intentions/DOOMSDAY-challenge.

Match #4: The Old School Wrecking Crew vs. Caleb Konley/Sal Rinauro
Another squash, unsurprisingly. After beating both Konley and Rinauro to pulps, they finish Konley off with the Spiked Piledriver.

Result: The Old School Wrecking Crew win via pin w/ The Spiked Piledriver
Time: 4:21

- Promo-time for these guys. Pearce says there are a lot of teams talking about deserving title matches and he's not sure why. He says he doesn't get why WGTT gets yet another shot, doesn't understand why Fastball Special are clamoring for one, and has no clue whatsoever what the Briscoes are even saying. He says there's one team that has actually won a few matches recently and hasn't actually gotten a shot at DOOMSDAY - The Old School Wrecking Crew. Steve Corino says that time and again he and Pearce keep getting overlooked and maybe it's because they're not young enough to run in the direction WCW is going. He says that's A-OK because guys like him and Pearce might not kick your head off, might not be homeless, and might not wear stupid masks or face-paint, but they'll still beat you down and take your women. Veered a bit there at the end.

Main Event: Anthony Andrews vs. Chris Jericho [c] - Non-title Match
Interesting that a squash would be the main event. Jericho plays it up nicely but he easily dominates Andrews. Jericho does a good job of getting the crowd to react to different things. They end up on the outside and Jericho gives Andrews a few chops up against the guardrail. This is important because a fan then attacks Jericho. It is, of course, Alberto Dos Caras. That draws the disqualification which, if I'm not mistaken, is a first for WCW main events. Alberto attacks Jericho with a chair. He drapes Jericho's arm over the guardrail, with Jericho in the crowd, and hits it with a chair! Security rushes out to make the save, but the damage is done. That ends the show at around 38 minutes, being the shortest episode of WCW Underground yet.

Result: Chris Jericho wins via disqualification (Alberto Dos Caras interfered)
Time: 4:43
