WCW Underground 2.12

- Previously on WCW: Alberto Dos Caras attacked Chris Jericho with a chair. Plus, Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team accepted the Do or Die Challenge for tonight's main event.

- Opening video.

- We're only two days away from the big FOX special, so don't expect this to be anything more than one huge hype episode as they're going to go all out to get a good, strong rating. The 1-hr card for Saturday is set to have appearances by Bad Intentions and Brodie Lee, Austin Aries vs. JML in a career vs. career match, and Chris Jericho vs. Alberto Dos Caras in a rematch for the WCW Championship. So that's where we standing coming into this episode. Lenny Leonard is flying solo this week, again. He says that JML is preparing for his match on Saturday but we'll get to hear some pre-recorded comments from him in the Event Center.

Match #1: Austin Aries vs. Sal Rinauro
Joey Ryan and Brian Kendrick are notable for not being there, a fact that Lenny comments on so maybe it means something. This is, of course, an extended squash. Aries uses tons of kicks and forearm shots, mixed with several types of submissions. He pulls off the Joe Killer Combo (kick to the head, brainbuster, 450 splash), but then lifts Rinauro's head before the 3-count. Aries locks in the Horns of Aries for the submission victory.

Result: Austin Aries wins via submission w/ The Horns of Aries (modified Muta Lock)
Time: 5:08

- So Austin gets to cut a promo, of course. Austin says that pro wrestling came to him like a fat man to cake and there's no denying just how great he is at it. He says he just showed the entire world that he can get the job done in any manner possible be it by pin-fall or submission. He says for years people have spouted out cliches like "To be the man you have to beat the man" or called themselves by false names like "The Best in the World," when the truth of the matter is the absolute best in professional wrestling has always been wrestling's MV3 - Most Valuable Vascular Vegetarian - Austin Aries. He says that on Saturday he's going to step in the ring with the biggest dumbass wrestling has ever seen. He says JML isn't just a failure on commentary, he's a failure in pro wrestling, on the stock market, and in life in general. He says JML's biggest claim to fame is being WWE champion for a really long time on Smackdown - a show no one gives a shit about. He says JML is the only person in professional wrestling to have five different pro wrestling personalities that all suck five different ways. He says JML's biggest claim to fame should be that he managed to stay employed despite sucking ass - or maybe it was because of (!!!), "but enough about Pat Patterson." ~!!@!~ WOW. He says Saturday he's going to rid the world of one more Texan, you can thank me for it later. GREAT promo!

- The Chris Jericho-hype video from the Event Center a few weeks back plays in its entirety. The first portion of the video details his early career. It cuts to the interview, which is black and white, every so often. Essentially, it's one of those UFC-style interviews. After talking about the career he talks about Dos Caras. Lots of good stuff here with clips from their previous encounters. "He'll bring his submission-game and he's good at it, but he's not good enough." "Who's he been in the ring with? Really been in there with? I mean, besides me? I've been toe-to-toe with guys like Triple H, Kurt Angle, Steve Austin... Who's he fought?" Some subtle heel-stuff, but over a great video package to build towards the showdown on FOX.

- Lenny Leonard is at ring-side. He says right not there are some definite questions in the air about whether Jericho can perform at 100% on Saturday. He says we'll hear from Jericho later on but for now he's going to bring out the man who may have taken Jericho out of the equation. Alberto Dos Caras comes out in a really nice suit and aviators. He starts off by saying: "Everyone - let us give Leonard here a hand. You know, Chris Jericho might be the only person who isn't clapping." Nice little guffaw afterward, as well. He says last week was all just one big misunderstanding. He says there was a spider on Jericho's arm and as Jericho is one "pollo grande," he was just doing him a favor by killing it. He says that, in a lot of ways, it represents everything that has come between him and Jericho. He says Jericho is the fly - he is alimaƱa. He says and for many weeks he has baited Jericho and manipulated Jericho, because you see Jericho es tonto - the fool. He says that he strung Jericho along long enough to get Jericho into the position he needed. He says, "And like the spider on the web... The fly is trapped. And you know what happens to the fly Leonard, yes? You know what happens? It is devoured. That... That is the fly's destiny. Si? And now Leonard? Now I have Jericho trapped in my web and on Saturday? He will be destroyed. That es su destino. And the WCW Championship? That es mi destino." He winks and walks off. Another fantastic promo!

- Lenny Leonard is still at ring-side. He brings out Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team. Lenny asks if they regret accepting the Do or Die Challenge. Haas says that life is about taking chances and here tonight they're laying it all on the line. He says in this business they've been tag champions a few times in a few places, but nothing compares to what they're trying to do here tonight. He says the last time they fought, they had what might be the greatest tag team battle ever in the history of pro wrestling. He says for roughly 30 minutes they let it all hang out in that ring. He says when you fight that hard for something, that means that something is the most important thing you've ever had to fight for - and that's exactly what the WCW Tag Championship is - the most important thing he's ever fought for. Benjamin takes the mic and says that at first there might have been a mutual dislike between us two teams, but from that mutual dislike has grown a mutual respect. He says that win or lose, he's never been in the ring with a better tag team than DOOMSDAY. He says tonight is a night where all the chips are on the table and WGTT is going all-in because either they're going to win big or go home. Lenny is about to ask another question when he's interrupted by none other than Claudio Castagnoli and Ares - The Cross. Ares spouts some stuff off in German and then they walk off just as soon as they arrived. Lenny thanks WGTT and then we segued to a video detailing the DOOMSDAY/WGTT-rivalry.

- A video plays for the DOOMSDAY/WGTT rivalry. It starts all the way back in November and covers the untimely passing of Bison Smith. It builds through the following weeks with the tournament that WGTT won to face Takeshi and a partner of his choice and then Takeshi revealing Keith Walker as the partner. Clips are shown of the match at Starrcade with DOOMSDAY winning and then respectful embraces afterward. More build to set up the rematch against DOOMSDAY at The Bunkhouse Stampede. Clips of that match are shown and it's treated like a huge match - which it is - and they show DOOMSDAY winning again. Next up comes the challenges and acceptances and finally clips of the promo from last week about the Do or Die Challenge.

- Commercials.

- Lenny Leonard is at ring side with Windham Rotunda. Lenny brings up the end of Underground from a few weeks ago where the show ended with Chris Masterson locking Windham in the Torture Lock. Windham says Masterson has made some pretty dumb mistakes in his career but doing what he did might be the dumbest one yet. He says all he's done is poke the bull and he's about to get the horns.

The Event Center
Jim Ross plays a video package, similar to the one from a few weeks ago, of footage of Bad Intentions in Japan. He says the team of Giant Bernard and Karl Anderson have been one of the most destructive tag team forces in Japan over the past few years. He says that office politics from both WCW, New Japan Pro Wrestling, and now WWE are the only things keeping DOOMSDAY and Bad Intentions apart. He says though that he can officially announce that Bad Intentions will be present this Saturday on the FOX special: Dos Caras vs. Jericho 2! He says also scheduled to be in attendance is Brodie Lee. He plays a censored clip of Brodie's attack on Necro Butcher at the Bunkhouse Stampede iPPV. Ross says that Brodie will be given tough questions to answer in a special Event Center interview with Lenny Leonard. He then segues to talk about the Austin Aries vs. JML-match, playing a clip that JML sent in. JML is sitting down in his house talking to directly to the camera. He says that in the history of pro wrestling there have always been guys like Aries who want more than they deserve, take more than they've earned, and then bitch about what they didn't get later on. He says if he had a nickle for every single person who ever complained without actually putting forth the effort, he'd be even richer. He says that at the end of the day, Aries is "goin' to get lariated right the hell out of WCW." Ross ends by talking about Jericho and Dos Caras.

- Lenny is at ring-side again, this time with Davey Richards and Chris Hero. He says that next week Chris Hero and Davey Richards will settle their differences and the winner of their match will face the winner of Jericho/Dos Caras on April 28, live at the iPPV Superbrawl!

- Commercials.

- The video package about Alberto Dos Caras from last week is played again. This video details more stuff related to his history with Mexico than his wrestling career. Some really hilarious stuff here as he buys something from a taco stand and then demands a refund because it's disgusting. He tells a couple of kids that America is the greatest country in the world and if they were smart, they would hide themselves in a van and hitch a ride over the border. They run off and he says they're good kids and maybe one day they can mow his lawn. He walks into a church and says that he prays every Sunday to be champion again and he knows that his prays will come true because it is his destiny. Fantastic video.

- And out comes DOOMSDAY. Lenny says their match is only moments away and wants to know how Jacobs feels about it. Jacobs says that the end game has never changed. He says that he and DOOMSDAY respect WGTT but nothing is going to change about what happens tonight. He says WGTT were given an opportunity to DO or DIE and tonight there is only one option: DOOMSDAY.

- Commercials.

- DOOMSDAY are in the ring but CHRIS JERICHO~! is at ring-side. His arm is bandaged up. Lenny asks him if he'll be able to compete on Saturday. Jericho says he might not be 100%, but nothing will stop him from getting in that ring on Saturday. He says a coward attacks an unsuspecting man and Alberto Dos Caras has never been anything more than a coward. He says Alberto was scared to face Davey Richards one-on-one, Alberto was scared to face him in a fair fight, and after Saturday he'll be scared to show his face when he loses again. He says Alberto has done a lot of impressive things, but he still hasn't been able to escape a match without being pinned by Jericho. Lenny questions is the arm might be the key to Alberto's success on Saturday. Jericho gives him the dirtiest look imaginable and says, "The only thing Alberto Dos Caras is going to be successful at on Saturday is getting his ass kicked."

Main Event: DOOMSDAY [c] w/ Jimmy Jacobs vs. Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team - WCW Tag Team Championship Match; Do or Die Match
So this is it! Plenty of time for this to go the distance. Benjamin and Morishma start out and they do some chain-wrestling. Haas and Walker have a go at it, exchanging some power-shots (shoulderblocks, etc.). Next up Benjamin and Walker go at it for a bit, then Haas and Morishima pair off. Lenny calls it a stalemate. Morishma tries a bunch of his usual stuff on Haas, but Haas counters it all. Haas tries a bunch of his usual stuff on Morishma, but Morishima counters it all. More back and forth stuff but then Benjamin goes for his spinning heel kick, but Walker catches him and tosses him into the turnbuckle. Effective now: Benjamin is YOUR face-in-peril. Walker and Morishima cut Benjamin off and work his back over with tons of power-moves. Benjamin tries the hot tag a few times, but he always gets cut off when he gets close. Walker busts out Goldberg's old press slam-into-the-powerslam move for a near-fall. Benjamin finally DRILLS Walker with the spinning heel kick and makes the tag to Haas. Haas cleans house and gets a couple of near-falls on Morishma. Morishma gets nailed with the Broken Arrow (also known as the Leap of Faith elsehwere) by WGTT but Walker makes the save. The match breaks down and they all end up brawling on the outside. Morishima ends up getting speared through the guardrail into the front row by Haas! This allows WGTT to double-team Walker on the outside with a double suplex. Then Haas holds Walker up and Benjamin flies off apron with the modified Hart Attack on Walker! Walker is completely out of it! Benjamin and Haas try to live his lifeless body off the concrete and eventually roll him in. They make the cover and it's the most insane near-fall ever as Morishima makes the save from nowhere. Morishima breaks through a double clothesline attempt by Haas and Benjamin and then tears over them with a double clothesline of his own. More crazy brawling from here. Morishima and Benjamin end up outside courtesy of a Foley-like clothesline over the ropes by Benjamin. Haas hits a HUGE overhead belly-to-belly superplex on Walker but it only gets two. Haas goes for something but Walker counters with an Iron Claw Slam, which triggers chants of "BISON SMITH." Walker tosses Haas over the ropes to Morishima and they look to attempt the same basic thing that WGTT did earlier: an Omega Driver but with Walker flying off the apron with his lariat! Walker charges but Benjamin pops up out of NOWHERE and DRILLS Walker with Paydirt onto the apron for a HUGE "Holy Shit!"-chant! AMAZE. Morishima makes Benjamin suffer with a HUGE Backdrop Driver on the CONCRETE! He rolls Benjamin back in the ring but it only gets two~! Walker back up and they set up for the Omega Driver which they nail perfectly. On the outside, Claudio Castagnoli comes out of nowhere and DRILLS Haas with a bicycle kick - prevent Haas from making the save as DOOMSDAY gets the pin-fall in the ring! Not as awe-inspiring as their last encounter, but a suitable conclusion to their trilogy none the less.

Result: DOOMSDAY wins via pin w/ The Omega Driver
Time: 22:11

- Post-match, Haas checks on Benjamin. They complain to the referee about Castagnoli, but no dice.

- The show ends with another video package for the Dos Caras vs. Jericho 2 show. It should be a good bit of TV!
