WCW Underground 2.19

- Opening video.

- Lenny Leonard and JML are your hosts, as ever. Lenny Leonard immediately starts talking about the rumors of the "Captain's Challenge Match" at the Great American Bash. JML says that Mike Hogewood will have the full details on what exactly it's all about later tonight in the Event Center. They then talk about the main event, Fastball Special vs. the Midnight Guns, and the possible implications it will have on the tag team championship scene. That segues to talk about how DOOMSDAY will be defending the championships in Japan on Saturday and the winners of that match will face #1 contenders the Old School Wrecking Crew at the Great American Bash. Speaking of:

Match #1: The Old School Wrecking Crew vs. Shane Curtis/Taylor McKnight
Typical squash, here. Corino and Pearce alternative between beating up Curtis and then McKnight. The Crew use their standard heel tactics to dominate and finally finish Curtis off with the Spike Piledriver.

Result: The Old School Wrecking Crew win via pin w/ the Spike Piledriver
Time: 4:22

- The #1 cont. hit the commentary table for their post-match interview. Lenny asks if they're keeping an eye on the results from Japan to see how DOOMSDAY fares in their title defense overseas. Corino says it's just like a bunch of cowards to leave the country to put off losing the belts one more month. He says everyone knows that the only undefeated team that matters in WCW is the Old School Wrecking Crew. Corino says that they don't necessarily have all the flash and glitzy b.s. a team like those morons Fastball Special might have, but the wisdom and skill between him and Pearce more than make up for it. Pearce says:

"Tick, tock, tick, tock Lenny Leonard. The clock keeps ticking all the way up until the Great American Bash when the unsung heroes of WCW will finally put to rest the age old question of what happens when the irresistible force meets the immovable object. You see DOOMSDAY has been positioned by every moron out there and back there and everywhere as an immovable object. These behemoths are the most powerful force yadda yadda who cares? But me and Corino? We're the irresistible force. Hey, we're not even supposed to be here right now. That little moron with the clipboard that comes out here never expected us to pull this out. We were brought in to be like those two idiots we just beat up. No one ever gave us a chance and now here we are. And hey, those idiots out there looking at us can boo and heckle us all they want. On June 30, when we finally put an end to the DOOMSDAY saga, the world will know what we've been saying all along: nothing can stop us now."
The usual good stuff from Pearce, there.

- A video package recaps what happened to Jay Briscoe.

Match #2: Mark Briscoe vs. Bo Newsome
Well this should be interesting. They actually do a bit of back-and-forth to start, but inevitable this turns into a showcase piece for Mark Briscoe. Mark uses tons of his stuff that he does in tag action, like the high-speed spinning heel kick and the elbowdrop, complete with dancing, off the of the second rope. Mark finishes Bo off with a frog splash.

Result: Mark Briscoe wins via pin w/ a frog splash
Time: 4:01

- Mark goes up for his interview and does the usual Briscoe-promo where he rambles incoherently and then yells "MAN UP!" a bunch of times.

- The Hollywood Kings (Brian Kendrick and Joey Ryan) make their way to the commentary table. Lenny Leonard asks them for a reaction based on the debut of the A-List a few weeks ago. Joey Ryan says in his time he's been known to be a little sleazy, but no one tops Austin Aries when it comes to being a douchebag. He says that Austin Aries never could hold up his end when they were a trio. Joey says that when Austin asked them to be his client, they knew then and there it was time to put that idiot behind them and move forward toward some tag team gold. He says but unfortunately the little scum decided to pop back up into their lives with Roderick Strong and Karl Anderson. Kendrick takes over here and says that they're no strangers to Strong and Anderson, having fought them up and down the West Coast plenty of times. He says that things might be a little bit different now that they're at the teat of the biggest idiot he's ever seen. Kendrick then lays down a challenge to take on the A-List at the Great American Bash!

Match #3: Chip Day vs. Alberto Dos Caras
This shouldn't be much a surprise as the former World Champion makes quick work of Chip Day. He finishes Day off with the Destiny Lock.

Result: Alberto Dos Caras wins via submission w/ the Destiny Lock
Time: 3:09

- Alberto's turn for an interview. Alberto doesn't even allow Lenny to ask him a question before ripping the microphone out of his hand. He says that the fans continue to boo him every week for what he did to their precious Patriot. Alberto says the only thing he regrets is not ripping that mask off but he promises the time will come. The heat he's starting to get is pretty amazing. He says the fans boo him because he's a successful Mexican and he pays Americans to mow his lawn. He says that the fans in this arena will never be as rich as him and have to live off food stamps and welfare! He says in Mexico that they take care of each other, but he knows at least seventeen people in the audience who would give up their children for meth! He says that's the REAL American way! Apparently having heard enough, the Patriot comes out and erupts into a brawl! The Patriot beats up Dos Caras all around ringside, whipping him into the guardrail and slamming him on the timekeeper's table, etc. They battle into the ring and the Patriot ends locking Dos Caras in the Sharpshooter before referees finally make the save.

- Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team is at the commentary table for an interview. Lenny asks how they're doing after what happened at SuperBrawl. Haas says that the Cross pulled out a good one at SuperBrawl and he gives them props for that. He says what he doesn't respect is what they did afterward putting Shelton Benjamin through a table. He says he knew from day one that they didn't fight the good fight and the only person to blame is themselves for not expecting it. Haas says that's all good and well because they can put people through tables too, and if the Cross thinks this is over then they have another thing coming. Haas promises revenge for what they did at SuperBrawl.

Match #4: Patrick Bentley vs. Eddie Edwards
This is Davey's return to TV. Eddie Edwards is at ringside with him. Lenny talks about the two of them taking some hard losses at SuperBrawl and JML speculates on whether or not they can bounce back. Davey works a good match and gives Bentley some offense, but it ultimately ends with the DR Driver for the pin.

Result: Davey Richards win via pin w/ the DR Driver
Time: 4:54

- Eddie and Davey hit up the commentary table for their interview. Lenny starts with Eddie and asks about losing the United States Championship. Eddie says everyone across the world knows the match shouldn't have ended where it did, but that's what happened and all he can do is get over it and go for the rematch. Lenny asks when the rematch will be and Eddie says he's petitioned for it but the Executive Director is apparently working over the details. Davey interrupts and says, "This isn't going to be comfortable for you Eddie, but last week I was granted a United States title shot." Davey quickly confirms that Eddie still has a title match coming, but next week he's going to get revenge on Brent Albright and that little pipsqueak Austin Aries for what they did to Eddie at SuperBrawl. Eddie is pissed, though, and says: "I sure as hell don't need you fighting my battles for me!" and storms off! DRAMA~!

The Event Center
Mike Hogewood spends this edition of the Event Center talking about a match called the Captain's Challenge. The breakdown is this: it's an 8-man elimination tag match. Each team will have a team captain. The match proceeds and if someone is pinned or submitted, they are eliminated from the match. There will be no disqualifications or countouts (within reason). The match will end when all members of one team have been eliminated or if the team captain has been eliminated. So if the team captain is eliminated first, even though there are three other men on his team, that team loses. The remaining winners will get to split $100,000! Hogewood says the amount of drama in this match will hit some new highs. He says next week on the special LIVE edition of Underground, he'll announce the two team captains. Additionally, next week we'll see clips from the title defenses in Japan that will turn the WCW Championship and WCW Tag Team Championship into World-class titles.

- Austin Aries is at ringside with Brent Albright and the A-List. Lenny wants to know why he's there. Aries laughs and says he was the guy who set up the title defense against Davey Richards and that's why he's the Greatest Manager Who Ever Lived. Well that was a pointless interview, but it did expand on the story.

Main Event: Fastball Special vs. The Midnight Guns
The best way to describe this match is insane. For a little over 20 minutes these four guys never stop in doing all kinds of fast, high-paced stuff. Right from the get-go, when Generico and London dive out Moxley and Black, all the way up until the end. London and Generico hit moonsaults, Black flies over the ropes, even Moxley takes a dive to the outside. They never enter into a period of time where someone plays face-in-peril, either. In truth, it's a hard match to recap because it's literally all over the place. At one point, Generico runs off the stage and dives into the ring, catching Black with a tornado DDT! At another point, Black hits to most amazing flying dropkick off the apron to London, who's seated in a chair. It's just balls-to-the-wall action for about 20 minutes. At the end they exchange all manners of insane tag team moves for near-falls, each time with a member of the team making the save - whether it's Generico or Black or Moxley or London. The finish comes with Generico gives Black a HUGE Yakuza kick, sending Black to the outside. Mark Briscoe comes out and has to be kept out of the ring by security, but that provides enough of a distraction for Generico to hit Moxley with the brainbuster and London to nail the Shooting Star Press for the win (giving the Guns their first lost). This is a bit of weak recap, but if you get a chance go get this show and watch it.

Result: Fastball Special win via pin w/ the Shooting Star Press
Time: 21:11

- Fastball Special celebrate in the ring to end the show.
