Wrestling Observer Newsletter Update
- The talk going around is that following the TV taping on 10/3, Kurt Angle will be faced with a two month suspension. That seems lengthy but considering in that two months, he'll miss three shows, it's not that big of a suspension. He will not be paid during this time. A source close to WCW officials told us, "He was told he could either take the suspension or leave." Kurt Angle is getting good money for once-a-month, sometimes-twice appearances and at this point, WWE doesn't want him and he has burnt bridges with TNA. Japan wouldn't offer him enough money to do the little work he's doing. The real issue is that he's basically the top babyface in the promotion and between last week and this week's episode, it seems that they were probably building to an Alberto Dos Caras/Kurt Angle main event at the next iPPV. Angle will likely film a storyline to put him out of action at the next set of TV tapings.
- By putting Kurt Angle on suspension beginning 10/4, Angle will not be able to be a part of the late-October iPPV. Based off last week's episode, it's possible they could run a Davey Richards vs. Alberto Dos Caras main event which would draw with the hardcores, but probably wouldn't move the needle much past them. The other talk is that they're going to bring someone in to replace Kurt Angle on top as a babyface. Names being thrown around were Dave Bautista, Chris Jericho, and Shawn Michaels. I can guarantee that even though Shawn Michaels is a professed fan of the promotion according to his Twitter, he will not be showing up.
- WCW officials are in heavy pursuit of a national TV deal and only plan on doing Internet TV until they can get one.
- The Davey Richards/Alberto Dos Caras match is a match to be seen. If viewed on a regular TV show, it would no doubt be a top contender for Match of the Year. It's 15-minutes of state-of-the-art action and, in the process, made on hell of a star out of Davey Richards. Interestingly, just about everyone expected Davey to bring his A-game, but many (particularly in high places) were very happy that Alberto was able to keep up with him.
