WCW Underground 2.02
- Previously on WCW: We were introduced to two new stars in Windham Rotunda and Richie Steamboat. Jim Ross made an announcement regarding the Bunkhouse Stampede, which is a 25-man Royal Rumble essentially with the winner getting the Bruiser Brody Cup (a Money in the Bank-like deal). Finally, Eddie Edwards and CM Punk went to a disqualification and resulted in the team of Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards throwing down with CM Punk and Drew Gallows.
- Standard opening video.
- Lenny Leonard and JML are at their new area on the stage. Leonard says that Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards will be here later to discuss last week's chaotic ending. He says tonight we'll be introduced to some new stars and we'll see another title match as DOOMSDAY will defend the tag team titles against Fastball Special.
Match #1: Anthony Andrews/Patrick Bentley vs. The Midnight Guns (Tyler Black/Jon Moxley)
The Guns are punk rock, I guess. They're heels, as well, sneak attacking the jobbers. They hit a bunch of tag moves, one of which I love. Moxley put Bentley in this submission hold, almost like a camel clutch where Bentley was swinging beneath Moxley, and Tyler casually walks up and punts Bentley in the head. Great reaction to it! The finish was Moxley drilling Andrew with a Kryptonite Krunch (called the "Midnight Special" by JML) for the pin.
Result: The Midnight Guns win via pin w/ The Midnight Special (Kryptonite Krunch)
Time: 3:21
- Here comes the good ole Necro Butcher! Necro says that he's put CM Punk in the rear view and is looking dead ahead at the Bunkhouse Stampede. He calls it a wild, crazy brawl that will be like a home away from home for him. He warns everyone to stay out of his way because no one will stop him at the Bunkhouse Stampede. This brings out Brodie Lee. Lee says that him and the Butcher might be buddies right now, but at the Stampede the Necro Butcher WILL be stopped by the "Big Rig." Nice way to establish the "every man for himself"-dynamic.
- A commercial plays for WCW Legacy. This one is a little more in-depth in the others, showing footage from old WCW.
- A commercial plays for the Bunkhouse Stampede iPPV.
- Three Kings are at ringside. Austin Aries says that it took a billion different men to put him down at Starrcade and he actually blames Kendrick and Ryan for the loss. Both of them are pretty taken aback by that comment. Aries says that the issue between him and the billionaire hick on the stage are far, far from over. He says come hell or high water, JML is on his way out and the Three Kings are on their way in.
- Leonard and JML talk about the approaching iPPV, Bunkhouse Stampede, at the end of February. They say it'll be one of the most chaotic shows of the year. They're interrupted by none other than Alberto Dos Caras. Caras says that everyone keeps asking him when he'll claim his re-match. Caras says that the morons who run this company didn't put any stipulation in the champion re-match clause other than that there must be two weeks notice. For all he cares, he can claim the re-match one year from now or one month from now. Caras say he'll keep the claim in his back pocket and use it when it best suits him.
Match #2: Cru Jones vs. The Patriot
Sweet~! I loved the guy who used to do the Patriot back in WWE and WCW. I know he sold the character (or didn't, there was controversy on the issue) to Sal Sincere but I don't think this is Sal. Not sure who's under the mask. Wait. HOLY SHIT IT'S KURT ANGLE~! LOVE IT. Lots of chops and forearms from the Patriot. A couple of slams and a dropkick. No suplexes or straight punches, like Angle would throw. The Patriot hits a HUGE tornado DDT out of the corner and transitions that into a Sharpshooter for the submission victory.
Result: The Patriot wins via submission w/ The Sharpshooter
Time: 4:11
- Leonard confronts The Patriot and asks him who he is. The Patriot shrugs and walks off. It's totally Angle. He's wearing the old Patriot costume, but you can tell from the upper-body.
- A commercial plays for Halloween Havoc on DVD and NOW~! Blu-Ray.
- A commercial plays for WCWwrestling.com.
- Eddie Edwards and Davey Richards are at ringside. Davey says he's going into the Bunkhouse Stampede to win the Bruiser Brody cup. Davey says that 2012 is going to be the year of Davey Richards and no one can stop that. An awkward promo, really. Eddie says there's still some unfinished business from last week. He was told by WCW officials that as a current champion, he's not eligible to enter the Bunkhouse Stampede. Eddie says since that big asshole (Drew Gallows) tried to kick his head off last week when he wasn't looking, then why not face him one-on-one man-to-man in the ring at the Stampede.
The Event Center
Jim Ross apologizes right off the bat, saying that Alberto Dos Caras cancelled on him mid-week. He announces five new names for the Stampede: Necro Butcher, Windham Rotunda, El Generico, Paul London, and Brodie Lee. Ross says he couldn't Caras on the air, but did do his best to get someone. That someone was Chris Hero. We cut to a sit-down interview with Hero. Ross asks him why he refuses to shake hands with anyone who beats him. Hero says that he's the victim of more fluke wins than the Packers. Biting comment, that. Hero says no one has ever definitively beaten him. Ross asks about the match he had with Davey Richards. Hero says Davey couldn't get the job done twice, which makes it the very definition of a fluke. Ross asks what can people expect out of Hero in 2012. Hero responds, "Two words: WCW Champion." Solid enough promo, I guess.
- A commercial for WCW Legacy plays.
- A commercial for the Starrcade replay plays.
Match #3: The Cross vs. Derek Driver/Steven Walters
Squash. The Cross make quick work of the jobbers, getting the pin following their double-team sidewalk slam/bodysplash combo.
Result: The Cross win via pin w/ The Blitzkreig
Time: 2:11
- The Cross head up the stage and cut a roaring promo. All in German, of course.
- A commercial plays for Halloween Havoc on DVD and NOW~! Blu-Ray.
- A commercial plays for WCWwrestling.com.
Main Event: DOOMSDAY [c] vs. Fastball Special - WCW Tag Team Championship Match
While it's possible they'll go 25 minutes, that's a lot longer than just about any DOOMSDAY-match ever so I don't know if I see that happening. This could end up being the shortest episode of Underground ever! London is LONDON WARRIOR~!-mode. They start off with London and Generico repeatedly taking quick shots at Walker and Morishima to keep them off balance. Both members of DOOMSDAY end up outside and both members of Fastball Special fly out onto them. They brawl around ringside a bit, allowing JML some choice commentary: "Leave it to Paul London to screw up having an advantage against DOOMSDAY." Big spot sees Walker toss Generico from the Military press into the ringpost. You know what that means, right? Generico is YOUR face-in-peril. I love how easily DOOMSDAY can fight anyone and it not effect their standing. Generico gets murderized by DOOMSDAY for the better part of 12-minutes. There are a couple of sequences where Generico almost makes the tag, but he's cut of by Morishima or Walker - but the best part is it's never by underhanded tactics (like Walker nailing London). Walker and Morishima go for the pancake lariat, but Generico RICKY MORTON ROLLS~! out of the way for the hot tag! London comes in all guns a blazes and what not. It breaks down to your standard tag match. Lots of cool tag moves from Generico, including a Poetry in Motion-type move where Generico jumps off London's back with a HUGE Yakuza Kick. Not surprisingly, DOOMSDAY takes control and eventually they put London down with the Omega Driver for the win - which I believe might be the first time London has laid down in WCW.
Result: DOOMSDAY win via pin w/ The Omega Driver
Time: 16:32
- And sure enough we're ending about ten minutes earlier than usual. Leonard promises WCW Championship match next week as the show ends.
